A Blog A Day – My Year Long Challenge

This should be the first of many. I’ve set myself a personal challenge, as of the 20th of August 2016 I shall be trying to do at least a single blog post a day. I shall be trying to incorporate a few of the following things into my blog posts:

  • SEO Tips
  • Case Studies
  • Site Speed Tips
  • Interesting Tools
  • Analytics Tips
  • Affiliate Marketing

And probably a whole lot more that I haven’t even thought of.

So far I haven’t set myself a schedule for what I want to post, once I’ve gotten settled in to posting, I’ll be posting a rough schedule.

So, what’s the reason for setting myself this challenge? I’ve done a lot of reading online and happened to stumble across this research by hubspot: http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/blogging-frequency-benchmarks#sm.001aomyrg193fflbuk92gbd6nfl0y

The parts that really stood out to me are:

Companies that published 16+ blog posts per month got almost 3.5X more traffic than companies that published between 0 – 4 monthly posts.

The small companies that publish 11 or more blog posts per month drive much higher traffic than companies of the same size that publish fewer than 11 blog posts. Those that published 11+ posts per month had almost 3X more traffic than companies publishing 0 – 1 monthly posts, and about 2X as much traffic as those publishing 2 – 5 monthly posts.

Companies that published 16+ blog posts per month got about 4.5X more leads than companies that published between 0 – 4 monthly posts.

Companies that had published 401+ blog posts in total got about twice as much traffic as companies that published 301 – 400 blog posts.

So the above shows that with a solid schedule of posting and a large amount of posts that the traffic/leads you can generate is substantial. So perhaps you can see why I would be aiming to try and do a post a day. 365 posts and frequent should meet most of this criteria above, with only 35 blogs needed to push this site over to 400 post threshold.

However, my primary focus is not to drive traffic/leads (whilst that would be nice). I want to show that I can write quality blog posts and frequently too. I’ve always had an issue with my writing especially with time constraints. So hopefully doing this for a year will make everything much easier.

The benefits I foresee coming out of this project are:

  • Traffic
  • Experience Writing
  • Leads
  • Expanded Knowledge
  • A proper place to reference certain work

But most importantly I hope that me doing this will add value to you, the reader.
